Charlotte Tilbury Makeup and Skincare: Pillow Talk, Magic Cream and the Artist Behind the Brand

The makeup artist behind a 2013 beauty brand, the origins of Pillow Talk and Magic Cream, and 32 products to shop.

A Charlotte Tilbury story covering her makeup career, Pillow Talk's origin, Magic Cream's backstage start, and 32 products across makeup and skincare.

Charlotte Tilbury turned a makeup career into a brand

Charlotte Tilbury founded Charlotte Tilbury Beauty in 2013 after a 34-year career across editorial, campaigns, runway, couture and red carpets. Her artistry has shaped looks for Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Aniston and Celine Dion.

In September 2011, she worked on three Vogue September issues at once, the US, British and French editions. She received an MBE in 2018 and a Special Recognition Award at The Fashion Awards in 2023 for her contribution to fashion.

Two ideas grew into beauty signatures

Charlotte's Magic Cream began as a moisturizer she mixed backstage after seeing models' skin look dry and tired. She worked with scientists and laboratories on the formula, then launched it at Selfridges in 2013.

Pillow Talk started with the original Lip Cheat liner, inspired by natural lip tones. The collection now spans lips, eyes and cheeks, and the current shop also lists complexion products such as Hollywood Flawless Filter and AIRbrush formulas.

Where I would start with Charlotte Tilbury

Begin with Pillow Talk Lip Cheat and the Matte Revolution lipstick to see how the original lip pairing translates to a full look. Add Hollywood Flawless Filter for a softly lit complexion, then reach for Magic Cream before makeup. That sequence moves from a backstage origin to the products Charlotte sells now.
