Ruby ring options here span gold, diamond-set, solitaire, and stackable designs, from natural stones to clearly labeled lab-created rubies. I would choose by the way the stone is set, then check what the listing says about the gem.

Ruby ring: A Red Stone With Two Histories
A ruby with two histories
In Paris, at the Museum of Natural History, chemist Auguste Verneuil worked out a new way to grow ruby. He published his flame-fusion method in 1902, after decades on the problem. I like that as the opening to a Ruby ring: this is a stone with an old reputation and a distinctly modern second chapter.
Ruby is a red variety of corundum, colored by chromium, and the range runs from orangy red to purplish red. The name itself comes from Latin ruber, red. That is enough history for me; the useful question now is whether the red is natural or laboratory-created, and what the listing says about it.
In gold, the small scale is appealing. Catbird's Birthstone Coupe Ring centers a round ruby between two diamonds; Jennie Kwon's Ruby Round Deco Ring puts petite diamonds beside milgrain edges. Leo Black's Ripest Rubies Band takes the opposite tack, scattering nine rubies in varied cuts across a 14K band. The 1909 by Erica Weiner Machine Age design keeps three square rubies inside a white-gold Art Deco bezel on a yellow-gold band.
Then there is the Day and Night Band, contrasting rubies and old European diamonds across platinum and 18K gold, and Mark Henry's slim Thread band with 27 faceted rubies. EFFY's rose-gold Rose Garden ring goes floral; the scattered bezel ring pairs ruby ovals and diamonds. My practical check would be the side view and listed band width, especially if this is meant to sit beside a plain band rather than take the whole hand.

Ruby and diamond rings
Ruby ring pairings with diamonds work when the red remains the point. Bony Levy's Statement Ring centers an octagonal ruby within milgrain and mixed-cut diamonds; EFFY's Ruby Ribbon sweeps rose-gold ribbons around rows of both stones. For a cleaner line, Bliss Diamond's thin white-gold band places a ruby between six lab-grown diamonds, while its oval design pairs a lab-grown ruby with half-moon lab-grown diamonds. The two-tone silver ring by Julianna B. makes the contrast architectural, and SOUZANA's double halo turns the center into a bright oval. Beatrice from Brilliant Earth keeps a lab-grown ruby above a narrow shared-prong diamond band.
GIA notes that most rubies have been heated and some are lead-glass filled. I would treat the listing as a starting point, not a disclosure: ask what is natural, lab-grown, heated, or filled, ideally in writing. What I would skip: deciding from color alone that a stone is untreated or naturally mined. The halo and the paperwork tell different stories.

Ruby solitaire rings
A solitaire is about editing, not necessarily a bare setting. In this group, ALLUREZ pairs a round lab-grown ruby with diamond accents in white gold; The Lovery uses a single round ruby on a fine beaded 14K band. Zoë Chicco's ruby bezel is an easy red point for a stack, while Jennie Kwon's Caravaggio setting stretches the ruby into an elongated shape. The ELLIOT YOUNG Liquid Metal Claw Ring gives its 3mm natural rose-cut ruby a hammered sterling-silver base and gold bezel. Kendra Scott's Davie is a faceted ruby in silver; Julianna B. puts a created heart-shaped ruby on diamond-accented silver.
The late-1800s lab-grown story belongs here: GIA identifies ruby as the first gem created in a laboratory, by Auguste Verneuil. I would check the listing's exact stone description and the fit note before choosing; the ELLIOT YOUNG wide band runs about half a size small. A red center should not come with a guessing game about sizing or origin.

Stackable ruby rings
Stacking is where the setting has to behave as well as the color. MEJURI's Puzzle ring comes in recycled sterling silver or gold vermeil over sterling silver, each with a lab-grown ruby and a tiny white sapphire. David Yurman's 2mm Cable Collectibles band sets square ruby stations around a narrow gold loop, while Gurhan's hammered 22K band keeps one bezel-set ruby at center. Bony Levy's El Mar ring adds a small ruby and natural-diamond pairing; ALLUREZ's white-gold guard band lines up thirteen natural red rubies. For more movement, ELLIOT YOUNG's twisted double-dangle design lets a ruby swing inside its claw setting.
Corundum is relatively hard and tough, but care still depends on treatment. GIA says fracture-filled material should be cleaned only with a damp cloth. I would not put an unknown ruby setting through a cleaner before checking its treatment. What I would skip: stacking a glass-filled piece beside hard-edged rings before confirming care guidance; the surface is not the only detail that matters.

How I would choose the red
I would choose the shape first: a tiny bezel for a daily stack, an oval or square ruby if I want a clear focal point, then decide whether diamonds belong in the setting. Next I would read the gem description closely. Some rings here are explicitly natural, some lab-grown or created, and treatment is its own question, especially when a listing notes lead-glass filling.
GIA calls ruby and sapphire corundum, a hard, tough choice for daily jewelry, but it also says fracture-filled stones need a damp-cloth-only clean. My order is simple: find the red I like, confirm the exact stone and treatment, then check band width and size notes. Verneuil's 1902 breakthrough gave ruby a laboratory chapter; I would rather keep the rest of the story clear.
