Think Pink Knits

Think Pink Knits

The pink cardigan that softens everything you own

Pink cardigans in pale, rose and bright fuchsia, from fitted cropped styles to cable knits and long open front cashmere, plus how to wear pink in fall.

Why a pink cardigan works in fall

A pink cardigan is the sweetest way to add color to a fall closet. Buttoned up, it works like a sweater. Worn open, it is an easy layer over a tee or a slip dress.

Pale and ballet pinks feel soft and cozy with cream, grey and denim. Rose and bright fuchsia pinks look fun and a little bold with red, brown and navy.

I split the edit into two groups: fitted crew neck cardigans first, then cable knits, V necks and longer open styles.

Fitted pink crew neck cardigans

These short, fitted cardigans look best buttoned up and tucked into jeans or a skirt. The pale pink rib knits and the lace hem cardigan feel delicate and pretty, while the hot pink cardigans are the ones to wear when you want a bright pop.

The cashmere and merino cardigans are soft enough to wear right against your skin, and the pointelle cashmere cardigan is light enough for indoor heat.

My fitting room test: button it all the way and lift your arms. It should not gap between the buttons. What I would skip: very cropped styles if you mostly wear mid rise jeans.

Pink cable knit and open front cardigans

Cable knits and longer cardigans feel cozier and more relaxed. The chunky pink cable cardigans look great over a white tee with straight jeans, and the long open front cashmere cardigan works like a soft jacket.

The wrap cardigan and the textured fuzzy cardigan are the most fun shapes here.

What I check: the weight. A thicker knit holds its shape better and does not stretch at the shoulders. What I would skip: very loose knits that snag on bag straps and jewelry.

How I would wear a pink cardigan this fall

Button a pale pink cardigan over a white tee with dark jeans and brown loafers. For a bolder look, wear hot pink with a red skirt or chocolate trousers.

Pink and grey always look good together, so try one with grey jeans and a grey wool coat.
